Ayah 1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ

Ayah 2خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
English Translation
created man out of a germ-cell
3
Ayah 3ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ
English Translation
Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One
4
Ayah 4ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ
English Translation
who has taught [man] the use of the pen –
5
Ayah 5عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
English Translation
taught man what he did not know!
6
Ayah 6كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ
English Translation
Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening
7
Ayah 7أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ
English Translation
whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient:
8
Ayah 8إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ
English Translation
for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return.
9
Ayah 9أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ
English Translation
HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent
10
Ayah 10عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
English Translation
a servant [of God] from praying?
11
Ayah 11أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
English Translation
Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way,
12
Ayah 12أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ
English Translation
or is concerned with God-consciousness?
13
Ayah 13أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
English Translation
Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]?
14
Ayah 14أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
English Translation
Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]?
15
Ayah 15كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
English Translation
Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead
16
Ayah 16نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ
English Translation
the lying, rebellious forehead! –
17
Ayah 17فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
English Translation
and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom,
18
Ayah 18سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
English Translation
[the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement!
19
Ayah 19كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
English Translation
Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]!
