Ayah 1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night!

Ayah 2وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ
English Translation
And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night?
3
Ayah 3ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ
English Translation
It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness:
4
Ayah 4إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ
English Translation
[for] no human being has ever been left unguarded.
5
Ayah 5فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
English Translation
LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created:
6
Ayah 6خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ
English Translation
he has been created out of a seminal fluid
7
Ayah 7يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
English Translation
issuing from between the loins [of man] and the pelvic arch [of woman].
8
Ayah 8إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ
English Translation
Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life]
9
Ayah 9يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
English Translation
on the Day when all secrets will be laid bare,
10
Ayah 10فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ
English Translation
and [man] will have neither strength nor helper!
11
Ayah 11وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ
English Translation
Consider the heavens, ever-revolving,
12
Ayah 12وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ
English Translation
and the earth, bursting forth with plants!
13
Ayah 13إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ
English Translation
BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that between truth and falsehood,
14
Ayah 14وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ
English Translation
and is no idle tale.
15
Ayah 15إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا
English Translation
Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth];
16
Ayah 16وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا
English Translation
but I shall bring all their scheming to nought.
17
Ayah 17فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا
English Translation
Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while.
