Ayah 1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Ayah 2عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
English Translation
About the awesome tiding [of resurrection],
3
Ayah 3ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
English Translation
on which they [so utterly] disagree.
4
Ayah 4كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
English Translation
Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]!
5
Ayah 5ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
English Translation
And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand!
6
Ayah 6أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًۭا
English Translation
HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you],
7
Ayah 7وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًۭا
English Translation
and the mountains [its] pegs?
8
Ayah 8وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا
English Translation
And We have created you in pairs;
9
Ayah 9وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا
English Translation
and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death
10
Ayah 10وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًۭا
English Translation
and made the night [its] cloak
11
Ayah 11وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًۭا
English Translation
and made the day [a symbol of] life.
12
Ayah 12وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًۭا شِدَادًۭا
English Translation
And We have built above you seven firmaments,
13
Ayah 13وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًۭا وَهَّاجًۭا
English Translation
and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour.
14
Ayah 14وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءًۭ ثَجَّاجًۭا
English Translation
And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance,
15
Ayah 15لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّۭا وَنَبَاتًۭا
English Translation
so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs,
16
Ayah 16وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا
English Translation
and gardens dense with follage.
17
Ayah 17إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًۭا
English Translation
VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time:
18
Ayah 18يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًۭا
English Translation
the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes;
19
Ayah 19وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًۭا
English Translation
and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates;
20
Ayah 20وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
English Translation
and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage.
21
Ayah 21إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًۭا
English Translation
[On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] –
22
Ayah 22لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًۭا
English Translation
a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right!
23
Ayah 23لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًۭا
English Translation
In it shall they remain for a long time.
24
Ayah 24لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًۭا وَلَا شَرَابًا
English Translation
Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink –
25
Ayah 25إِلَّا حَمِيمًۭا وَغَسَّاقًۭا
English Translation
only burning despair and ice-cold darkness:
26
Ayah 26جَزَآءًۭ وِفَاقًا
English Translation
a meet requital [for their sins]!
27
Ayah 27إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًۭا
English Translation
Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account,
28
Ayah 28وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًۭا
English Translation
having given the lie to Our messages one and all:
29
Ayah 29وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًۭا
English Translation
but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did].
30
Ayah 30فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
English Translation
[And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!"
31
Ayah 31إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
English Translation
[But,] verily for the God-conscious there is supreme fulfilment in store:
32
Ayah 32حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًۭا
English Translation
luxuriant gardens and vinyards,
33
Ayah 33وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًۭا
English Translation
and splendid companions well matched,
34
Ayah 34وَكَأْسًۭا دِهَاقًۭا
English Translation
and a cup [of happiness] overflowing.
35
Ayah 35لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًۭا
English Translation
No empty talk will they hear in that [paradise], nor any lie.
36
Ayah 36جَزَآءًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًۭا
English Translation
[All this will be] a reward from thy Sustainer, a gift in accordance with [His Own] reckoning –
37
Ayah 37رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًۭا
English Translation
[a reward from] the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Most Gracious! [And] none shall have it in their power to raise their voices unto Him
38
Ayah 38يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّۭا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًۭا
English Translation
on the Day when all [human] souls and all the angels will stand up in ranks: none will speak but he to whom the Most Gracious will have given leave; and [everyone] will say [only] what is right.
39
Ayah 39ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
English Translation
That will be the Day of Ultimate Truth: whoever wills, then, let him take the path that leads towards his Sustainer!
40
Ayah 40إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًۭا قَرِيبًۭا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا
English Translation
Verily, We have warned you of suffering near at hand - [suffering] on the Day when man shall [clearly] see what his hands have sent ahead, and when he who has denied the truth shall say, "Oh, would that I were mere dust...!"
